Word of Life Church of the Nazarene

Making Christlike Disciples

Pastors Larry & Lori Dunn

Abbey and Andrew

Meet the Dunns – Larry, Lori, Abbey and Andrew

Pastor Larry is from Syracuse, NY, where he earned a BA in Environmental Design and Planning at SUNY Buffalo. After being called into ministry, he continued his education at the Nazarene Bible Institute. Larry also is a certified member of the PGA. His passion is spreading God’s word and making disciples.

Pastor Lori is from Waverly, OH. She attended Ohio Christian University (formerly Circleville Bible College), earning an Associates in Christian Education and Missions.  She, too, continued her education at the Nazarene Bible Institute. Lori is a Barber Stylist by trade, selling her business to enter into full-time ministry which is her passion.

In 1991, Larry and Lori began their ministry together in Columbus, OH as youth pastors. Feeling the call to continue youth ministries, they moved to Florida in 1998. After completing the necessary requirements, both were ordained in 2005 in the Central Florida District Church of the Nazarene. In 2008, they answered a Senior Pastorate call in Spring Hill, FL where they served for six years. Their call just prior to Word of Life was to Kaneohe, HI, serving for two years as General Manager for the Bay View Golf Course (owned by the Windward Nazarene Church). In addition to their unique golf outreach duties, they served as the Community Life/Outreach Pastors.

In September 2016, they accepted the call to Union Word of Life Church of the Nazarene. Aside from their current pastoral duties, Larry plays bass guitar as part of the church worship team, and Lori serves as Office Administrator.

Pastors Larry and Lori met in Virginia Beach, VA in 1984 and married in 1987. In 2000, they were honored and very blessed to adopt their newborn daughter Abbey following a Work & Witness trip to Corry, PA in 1999. Abbey is a God-given blessing, smart, beautiful, and enjoys computer programming. In 2006, they were given another opportunity to adopt a newborn boy. As a result of the same Work & Witness trip, Andrew came along unexpectedly. He is funny, caring, a story teller and has a servant’s heart. They feel extremely blessed to be their parents.

Nazarenes in Union

The Word of Life Church of the Nazarene (formally Union Church of the Nazarene) was established in a tent meeting on July 7, 1926 by Rev. J.W. Roach.  Since then the church has grown in family and fellowship under the leadership of 13 different pastors.

What We Believe

The Word of Life Church of the Nazarene is one church in a larger worldwide group of churches made up of people called Nazarenes.

You can visit the website for the general Church of the Nazarene at www.nazarene.org for more information on the denomination.

These are the beliefs Nazarenes hold to be true:
1.      We believe in one God who has expressed himself in personal ways. We know God’s personality as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2.      We believe the Bible communicates God’s saving message and is our reliable authority in all matters related to faith and Christian living.

3.      We believe that all humankind struggles with a downward pull.

4.      We believe that unless we experience God’s help and salvation through a faith commitment to Jesus Christ, our future is one of eternal separation from God and all that is good.

5.      We believe the love and grace of God is extended to every person in the provision Jesus Christ made in his death and resurrection. By turning from our own selfishness and trusting Jesus Christ, we experience a new life, being freed from the old patterns of self–destructive acts called sin.

6.      We believe our new life in Jesus Christ is the gateway to transformation.  Following our moment of faith in Jesus, we believe there is another moment in which we present our life completely to Christ in order to live under his authority and to experience his transforming power.

7.      We believe that Christian experience is more than a change of mind.  It is accompanied by assurance that is grounded in both the Scriptures as well as the inner witness of God’s Spirit.

8.      We believe that all who live for Jesus Christ have an eternal future. Our belief in such a future includes both the fulfillment of God’s creative purpose as well as the accountability of all persons endowed with the power of choice.
